Tewkesbury high street heritage action zone
The Tewkesbury High Street Heritage Action Zone programme ran from 2020 to 2024, investing over £2m in the historic town centre. Part of a nationwide initiative, the Borough Council was successful in securing £1m funding from Historic England which was matched by local funds from the Council and local businesses.
The programme delivered projects across a number of themes:
- grants to improve shop fronts and façades
- grants to bring upper floors back into residential use
- projects to enhance public spaces in the town centre
- projects to build awareness and understanding of the town’s heritage buildings
- cultural events linked to the town’s heritage.
