Renew an existing driver, operator or vehicle licence

It is your responsibility to ensure that you apply for the renewal of your licence. You must renew your licence at least 28 days before the expiry date.

To renew your licence you must fill out the application form and return it to us along with all of the supporting documents specified on the checklist of the form:

The application fee can be paid online.

Please note, we currently only accept complete applications. If an application is not submitted with all correct documents, or the documents are not valid, then we will need to reject the application. If an application is rejected, it will not be logged, and the application will need to be re-submitted in full.

Driver Renewal

If you wish to submit a driver renewal application, please email us at licensing@tewkesbury.gov.uk stating your intention to renew your driver’s licence and requesting an appointment. At your appointment, you will need to bring all documents with you.

Vehicle Renewal

If you wish to submit a vehicle renewal application, you can email your complete application to us at licensing@tewkesbury.gov.uk or if you wish to submit your application in-person, then please attend during one of our drop-in hours at the Tewkesbury Borough Council Offices. Please see more details on drop-in hours below.

Operator Renewal – Applications with applicants who are not Tewkesbury Borough Council licensed drivers

If you wish to submit an operator renewal application, and have applicants who are not licensed drivers with us, please email us at licensing@tewkesbury.gov.uk stating your intention to renew your operators licence and requesting an appointment. At your appointment, you will need to bring all documents with you.

Operator Renewal – Applications with applicants who are all Tewkesbury Borough Council licensed drivers

If you wish to submit an operator renewal application, and have applicants who are all licensed drivers with us, you can email us your application at licensing@tewkesbury.gov.uk or if you wish to submit your application in-person, then please attend during one of our drop-in hours at the Tewkesbury Borough Council Offices. Please see more details on drop-in hours below.

Operator applications for limited companies

If you are applying to renew an operator licence as a limited company, then you will need to email the completed application form and proof of payment to us at licensing@tewkesbury.gov.uk or bring your application to us at one of our drop-in sessions listed below.

Basic DBS certificates are required from all directors/company secretaries who are not licensed drivers with Tewkesbury Borough Council annually. Although it is principally the director’s/company secretaries’ responsibility to ensure they submit their annual DBS certificate before expiry, the Council will keep a separate record of when your annual DBS certificate is due, and we will send reminders for this separately from your renewal reminders. Please note that instances where you may not receive your reminder will not be grounds for avoiding suspension for failure to submit an annual DBS certificate before expiry.

Drop-in hours

If you wish to drop a vehicle application off at Reception, we are currently advising applicants to bring them in during our scheduled drop-in hours. These are times when a member of the Licensing Team will be making themselves available to check any application that is submitted in-person at our offices.

Please note, if you choose to come and drop an application off outside of our drop-in hours, you can still leave this at Reception. However, an officer will not be able to check the application for you. If the application is incomplete, then your application will be posted back to you with a note explaining what else we would need for a complete application when you re-submit.

Details of our upcoming drop-in sessions can be found here.
