Active Communities Grants

Tewkesbury Borough Council has received £12,500 through Active Gloucestershire’s ‘We Can Move’ programme. This is to support selected communities in the Borough to increase physical activity.
Community groups were invited to apply for up to £2,500 to help residents in those places get on the move.
This programme is now closed to application.
What are the grant programme priorities?
- Grants will support projects that increase physical activity in the communities where data available suggests more movement is needed.
- Applications for this programme must show how proposed activities will increase the numbers of people getting active.
- Applications can be for projects that will increase physical activity or for improving community spaces to encourage wider participation in community activities
Which communities are eligible?
This programme will prioritise the following areas:
- Wellbeing in Northway
- Wellbeing of older adults East of Borough (focusing on Winchcombe and the surrounding area)
- Wellbeing in Priors Park
- Mental wellbeing of children and young people in Brockworth
Are there any particular groups of people that projects should aim to reach?
- People with disabilities or long-term health conditions
- People living in lower-socio economic areas
- People from culturally diverse communities
- Older People
- Children and young people
- People from other under-represented groups in physical activity
What can the grant be spent upon?
You can apply for up to £2,500. Grants can be spent upon either revenue or capital costs. This might include any of the following:
- equipment & resources
- publicity & marketing
- training costs
- venue hire
- installation costs of any new equipment
- staff or volunteer costs
You must be able to supply a full breakdown of costs in relation to the amount you are requesting.
Who can apply for this grant?
Not-for-profit organisations working with communities in Tewkesbury Borough are eligible to apply. This includes:
- Registered charities
- Town/parish councils
- CICs & social enterprises
- CASCs
- Constituted community groups* (including faith groups, sports clubs, social groups).
*Community groups need to have a written constitution and hold a bank account in the group’s name.
Individuals and commercial organisations are not eligible to apply
Are there any special terms of grant?
Successful applicants must be willing to share learning, insight and impact from their project. This will include sharing information with Shephard & Moyes Ltd who are doing some evaluation work on behalf of Active Gloucestershire
How do we apply?
This programme opens on 7 July, and you will be able to complete the online application form at the bottom of this page. The form cannot be saved once started so you may want to check the questions in the sample application form to ensure you have all the correct information to hand.
Although we want the application process to be as simple as possible, please do include enough detail in your application to help us understand how your project meets the grant criteria above.
Do we need to include any policies with our application?
All applications will be required to attach a copy of their safeguarding policy as part of their application. If your safeguarding policy is listed in another document, such as a written constitution, please attach this instead. Please ensure your safeguarding policy meets Tewkesbury Borough Council’s safeguarding expectations in community grant-making. Applications that do not meet these expectations will be either delayed pending revisions or rejected.
All applications will be required to attach a copy of public liability insurance (minimum of £1m) as part of their application.
You will be able to attach a copy of your safeguarding policy and public liability insurance the end of the application form.
If your accounts are not publicly available, please attach a copy of your latest annual accounts.
What is the grant timeframe?
- Application deadline: 5pm, 14th September 2025
- Decisions made by 15th October 2025
- Project delivery completed by: 15th October 2026
