Tewkesbury Borough Council has today (Thursday, 23 April) unveiled its new web app designed to give residents quick and easy access to burial records through a fully digitised system.

Cemetery Viewer, a council-built and mobile-ready platform, offers precise plot searches which are linked to burial records. The web app also allows easy navigation between the Tewkesbury and Bishop’s Cleeve cemeteries with a bookmark tool.

More than 14,000 burial records and 3,789 headstones can now be viewed in seconds.

While the digitisation of historical records is ongoing, Cemetry Viewer also includes a unique community feedback feature that allows the public to report errors or suggest improvements.

Councillor Stewart Dove, Lead Member for Finance and Asset Management said: “I’m delighted that Cemetery Viewer, our in‑house web app gives the public instant access to important local heritage information, whether they’re researching family history or planning to visit a loved one’s plot.

“In seeking to make the new app as useful as possible, we’re also inviting public feedback to help us update the information held within the system.”

Officers from the Cemeteries and Transformation teams worked closely to modernise the service while fully respecting the emotional significance of these spaces. From creating the new digital system to building a public map and carefully handling historic records, every stage of the project has been carried out with dignity, care, and attention to detail.
