The Mayor of Tewkesbury Borough Council, Councillor Kashan Pervaiz, is inviting the community to get behind his London Marathon challenge on Sunday, 26 April, and help raise funds for two much‑loved local charities.

During his mayoral year, Councillor Pervaiz has chosen to support The Butterfly Garden and Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (GARAS) – charities that provide vital support to some of the most vulnerable people in Gloucestershire.

The London Marathon is one of the world’s most iconic endurance events, covering 26.2 miles through the heart of the capital and attracting tens of thousands of runners. For Councillor Pervaiz, the challenge represents months of early morning training runs, long distances, and careful preparation to be physically and mentally ready for race day.

Councillor Kashan Pervaiz, Mayor of Tewkesbury Borough, said: “I am incredibly proud to be supporting The Butterfly Garden and GARAS. Both organisations carry out exceptional work in our communities and deserve support and recognition for the difference they make.

“By training for and taking part in the London Marathon, I hope to raise awareness of their work and encourage others to support them in any way they can.”

“Preparing for the marathon is no small task, and the training has certainly been challenging at times. But knowing the impact these charities have on people’s lives has kept me motivated every step of the way.”

Donations can be made securely through the Mayor’s JustGiving page, with an overall fundraising target of £3,500. All donations will be overseen by trustees at the Tewkesbury Borough Council in Gloucestershire and formally passed on to the charities after May 2026.
