Vistry hands over Bishop’s Cleeve community centre to Tewkesbury Borough Council
Tewkesbury Borough Council and Vistry came together this week to celebrate the Bishop’s Cleeve Homelands Community Centre hand over to the council. This marked a key milestone in Vistry’s development at the Bishop’s Cleeve site.
Councillor Richard Stanley, Leader of the Council said: “We’re very proud to have received the keys officially from Vistry – the Homelands Community Centre will give residents a welcoming place to connect and celebrate. Vistry has developed the building to high standards and features flexible spaces for the community to use.
“We know that our local residents are eager to find out more from our intended tenants, Move More, and we’re looking forward to seeing the space come alive when they are ready to deliver a vibrant schedule.”
Supriya Ray, Managing Director for Vistry Cotswolds, said: “Handing over the Homelands Community Centre to Tewkesbury Borough Council is a fantastic milestone for Bishop’s Cleeve and a proud moment for everyone involved. From day one, the centre has been designed as a welcoming, flexible space that can host everything from community groups and events to health and wellbeing activities. Delivered to a high standard, it includes energy-efficient design features to support comfortable, modern use for years to come. And with the wider public open space also taking shape, including the wilding area and multi-use games area, we’re pleased to be helping create a place where the community can meet, be active and enjoy the outdoors long into the future.”
The building offers a well-designed and accessible facility featuring:
• Two halls – two multi-purpose halls for formal and informal community use such as meetings, workshops, arts and crafts, performing arts, health and fitness activities and more
• A meeting room – a multi-purpose space for meetings and visiting groups
• A kitchen – to serve the two halls and meeting room
• Facilities – offering accessible facilities
• An outside area, to be landscaped at a later stage, will provide open space alongside parking facilities and dedicated bicycle parking to support and encourage active travel.
The Homelands Community Centre was agreed as part of a planning condition on Vistry Group’s housing developments in the Gotherington Lane area of Bishop’s Cleeve. Officers from Tewkesbury Borough Council’s property, community, planning and legal teams have worked in partnership with local stakeholders and Vistry Group to ensure the community has a facility fit-for-purpose.
