Tewkesbury retail market returns closer to its historic home

Tewkesbury’s popular retail market is set to begin a new chapter as it returns closer to its original location within Spring Gardens car park from Wednesday, 19 August, in a move designed to support both traders and shoppers.
Following feedback from market stall holders, a trial relocation will see the market move, bringing it back towards its traditional home within Spring Gardens – helping to enhance the market experience for visitors and traders alike.
As part of the change, the red line bays currently used for the market will no longer be required. Cotswold Markets, which manages and operates the market on behalf of Tewkesbury Borough Council, will be marking out the new trading bays and installing updated signage to help guide visitors and stall holders. The newly marked bays will need to remain clear from 5am on market days.
The move comes at a positive time for the town centre, with footfall in Tewkesbury increasing by 4.7% compared to 2025 and new businesses continuing to open in the town.
The market, which has roots stretching back to the town’s Royal Charter rights of the 14th century continues to offer a wide variety of goods and services from local independent traders and is held every Wednesday and Saturday.
Visitors can browse a range of stalls, some of which include:
- Fresh fruit and vegetables
- Fishmonger
- Leather goods and luggage
- Dry groceries
- Watch and jewellery repairs
- Home fashion and clothing

We have listened to feedback from traders and are pleased to support this trial move in the Spring Gardens car park, which brings the market closer to its historic location while continuing to offer residents and visitors access to a fantastic range of local products and services.
“Markets play a vital role in creating a vibrant town centre, and with footfall continuing to grow, we encourage residents and visitors alike to come along and support our local traders.”
