Taxi and Private Hire Approved Testing Stations

Expressions of Interest

Tewkesbury Borough Council is looking to work with MOT testing stations in the local area to help them to ensure the vehicles they licence as taxi or private hire vehicles are safe and fit for purpose.

The Council wants to draw a list of approved testing stations that will check that vehicles are mechanically sound and that they meet the Council’s licensing requirements.

The Council currently licences around 815 vehicles and wants every vehicle to be inspected at an approved testing station before the licence is granted or renewed.  Vehicles that are over the age of five years, would be required to have a second inspection at an approved testing station around halfway through the one-year licence period.

The purpose to carry out tests to check that vehicles meet the DVSA MOT standards as well as an additional number of specific requirements the Council has in place that have to be met by its licensed taxi and private hire vehicles.

Approved testing stations will be required to sign up to a service level agreement with the Council that will set out the responsibilities of both the testing station and the Council in respect of testing vehicles and communicating with each other.
