Ways to pay your council tax

We issue an annual council tax bill to every household at the start of the financial year which runs from April to March. Your bill is usually payable in 10 monthly instalments. Your council tax is required to be paid as requested on your bill otherwise recovery action may be taken against you which could incur additional costs.

If you are finding it difficult to pay your council tax, please contact us on 01684 272034 to see if we can help you. We offer monthly instalments over 12 months instead of 10 months to help spread the costs of your bill, but you will need to set this up for your April payment. The payment is due on the 1st of each month for this method of payment.

We offer paperless billing. Sign up and view your council tax bills online.

Direct Debit

Direct Debit is a fast and efficient way of making sure that your payments reach us on time.  We offer the 5th or the 20th of the month.  Direct Debit is a secure way to pay, and you are covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee.  If an error is made, a full refund is paid by us to your bank or building society.  Details of the payments made to us will show on your bank or building society statement.  Please contact us on 01684 272034 to set up a direct debit.  If you already pay by Direct Debit, this will be shown on the front of your bill.

Telephone

If you are paying by a credit or debit card, please call 03300 883709.

Please note you will be charged the same as dialing a local number (or this will be included in any free call package you have with your mobile phone provider).

The payment is due on the 1st of each month for this method of payment.

Internet banking

Please ask your bank or building society to use Tewkesbury Borough Council’s bank account number 24598768 and sort code 30-80-12.  It is important that your council tax reference number is quoted.  This can be found on the front of your council tax bill under Council Tax Account.  The payment is due on the 1st of each month for this method of payment.

At the Post Office and PayPoint shops

Payment can be made at any Post Office branch or shops showing the PayPoint sign.  You will need the council tax bill to enable you to make payment as the barcode on the front of the bill will need to be scanned by the counter staff.  Payment can be made by cash or debit card.  Payment cannot be made by cheque.  There is no charge for making payment at the Post Office or PayPoint shops.  The payment must reach your council tax account by the 1st of the month if making payment by this method.
