Finding funders for your community group
Looking for an external grant?
If your community or voluntary group is looking for a grant, here’s a small list of external funders that you might want to consider.
Prior to applying, read through their eligibility criteria very carefully. If you are unsure about whether your project or activity is eligible, contact the funder prior to writing your application.
There are thousands of grant giving foundations, so if none of these fit the bill, see advice to the right to help you find a wider range of funders, or call our Community Funding Officers who will be happy to help.
Local funders
The County Council has a number of grants programme that are open throughout the year. Currently two programmes are open to community groups for application:
The Gloucestershire County Council Grassroots Neighbourhood Fund is to enable communities to support the council’s ambition to improve health and wellbeing, create resilient communities, and tackle health inequalities. The scheme will deliver funding to community initiatives that seek to make a positive impact on health and wellbeing and our local communities. The total sum available for grants in each electoral division is limited to £20,000. There will be a lower limit of £250 and an upper limit of £5,000 per grant.
The Gloucestershire County Council Climate Change Fund is to help Gloucestershire reduce carbon emissions and the impacts of climate change within communities. Applications should be for between £2,000 and £4,999. Applications open Friday 13 March 2026 and close Wednesday 29 April at 5pm.
The fund is aimed at projects that help to tackle climate change and increase people’s awareness and knowledge of the climate emergency.
Projects must both:
- Reduce carbon emissions – outlining how the action taken will reduce carbon emissions (65% weighting during scoring)
- Tell other people about the project and how it has reduced carbon emissions. (35% weighting during scoring)
Priority will be given to projects that reduce the most carbon, reach the most people and that provide the best value for money. Preference will be given to projects that are preventing new carbon emissions rather than adapting to changes due to existing carbon emissions.
The Gloucestershire Natural Flood Management Partnership is able to fund Natural Flood Management projects through the Gloucestershire Natural Flood Management Grant Scheme. These grants are open to any organisation, landowner or land manager, with a Natural Flood Management project which meets the relevant criteria. There is no formal deadline for applications, however due to restrictions on the total amount of funding available, it will be allocated to the first projects that come forward and meet the stated criteria, until it has been spent.
