Tree grants for community groups
Looking for trees?
If your community or voluntary group is looking to plant trees, here’s a list of external funders that you might want to consider.
Prior to applying, read through their eligibility criteria very carefully. If you are unsure about whether your project or activity is eligible, contact the funder prior to writing your application.
If you are planning to plant on Tewkesbury Borough Council owned land, please contact Tewkesbury Borough Council’s property team. You must have permission prior to applying for funds to plant.
Gloucestershire County Council ‘Trees for Gloucestershire’ Scheme – The County Council runs a variety of schemes for tree planting across the County. Please visit their website and fill out an expression of interest form.
The Woodland Trust – This organisation makes two deliveries a year, in March and November. Check their website for application details.
The Tree Council ‘Branching Out’ Fund – This organisation has various grant rounds throughout the year. Those eligible to apply include community groups, schools, not-for-profits, residents associations, Tree Warden Networks, and charities. Their webpage also contains further details of time-limited funds that are opening and closing.
This organisation provides assistance for community tree planting projects. In addition to financial support, they can provide physical trees and expert consultation and advice for projects that need it. This may include help with project design, species selection, ground preparation and so on. They provide small maintenance grants to cover tree care in the first two years after planting. This is set at 10p per tree for each year, and is provided to encourage essential activities, such as watering, mulching and weeding.
This funding is about people and communities as much as it is trees. All their UK projects take place on public or publicly accessible land. This can be common land and public parks. But can also be private land that is being used for a social purpose or private land with permissive access/rights of way.
