Rapid Relief Team assists Tewkesbury communities affected by flooding

Residents in Tewkesbury who have been affected by the recent floods have received welcome support from an international emergency response team.

Volunteers from the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) went to Victoria Gardens in Tewkesbury on Saturday, 20 January to clean the pathways by jet washing the mud, silt and other debris left behind by floodwater.

Then, on Monday, 22 January, the RRT delivered 35 family food boxes to Tewkesbury food banks for distribution to households in need. Each RRT food box contains enough food to provide healthy meals for a family of four for up to three days.

Established in 2013, the RRT offers catering assistance and support to charities, government and emergency services around the world – to date, it has served over 1.7 million meals face-to-face to people in need.

Dan Freeman, Local Team Leader at Rapid Relief Team UK, said “We’re here to lend a hand when communities need it most. The Rapid Relief Team is proud to have supported Tewkesbury residents affected by the recent floods, helping with the clean-up and delivering essential food boxes to those in need.”

Tewkesbury Borough Council’s Lead Member for Community, Councillor Cate Cody, said “The assistance from the Rapid Relief Team is greatly appreciated. Their practical help in cleaning up and providing food boxes directly benefits our community during these challenging times.”
