With Mother’s Day approaching on Sunday, 15 March, families across the borough are invited to swap the standard box of chocolates and flowers for something more lasting – a day of memories. Tewkesbury Borough’s attractions have risen to the occasion and curated a weekend designed to celebrate mothers and wow families across the borough.

The royal treatment at Sudeley Castle and Gardens

Sudeley Castle’s visitor season resumes on Saturday, 14 March, when the castle and gardens reopen for daytime exploration. The historic site in Winchcombe is celebrating Mother’s Day weekend by inviting mums to enjoy a blossom-filled stroll through the award-winning gardens, which will be alive with magnolia, early tulips and drifts of daffodils. You can also hear an inspiring talk about Queen Katherine Parr, in the Chapel.

On Mothering Sunday, all mums visiting the Shepherd’s Hut Tea Room will receive a complimentary cupcake as well as a posy of daffodils to take home.

Nostalgic adventures with Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Steam Railway

For a journey through time, the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway (GWSR) offers a scenic escape through the heart of the Cotswolds. Departing from Toddington or Winchcombe, families board restored carriages for a round-trip to Cheltenham Racecourse or Broadway. This is a wonderful relaxing experience, allowing visitors to sit back and watch the spring landscape unfold through the carriage window.

Dining and afternoon tea across the borough

Tewkesbury, Winchcombe, and Bishop’s Cleeve are boasting a range of culinary experiences to suit every palate:

For an indulgent afternoon, Tewkesbury Park and Hilton Puckrup Hall are offering elegant afternoon teas featuring locally-sourced clotted cream and handmade patisserie. Meanwhile, the historic Bell Hotel, overlooking the Abbey, is serving a traditional three-course Mothering Sunday roast.

The Lion Inn in Winchcombe is offering its delicious Mothering Sunday set menu, perfect for those looking for a cosy, pub atmosphere after a walk round the town or along the Cotswold Way.

The Royal Oak in Bishops Cleeve is focusing on family-friendly celebrations with a special Moments for Mum dining package available on Saturday, 14 and Sunday, 15 March.

Pamper time for mums who make everything magic

Treating mum to a little peace and pampering is easy in this corner of Gloucestershire, where spas are offering gentle, feel good experiences perfect for a spring celebration.

Set in quiet countryside, Hatherley Manor Hotel’s spa creates a cosy, unhurried atmosphere ideal for unwinding together, and has an option for afternoon tea.

Alternatively, they might want to try Cheltenham Chase spa in Brockworth, which is made for families who want something easy and comforting. With a pool, sauna and steam room – as well as a menu of classic treatments – it’s a gentle way to slow down and enjoy time together.

Local crafts – with a lot of love

The Greenway Hotel and Spa in Shurdington, is teaming up with Cheltenham Flower School to host a hands-on creative floral workshop that blends sustainable techniques and springtime style. This exclusive 90-minute session is followed by afternoon tea.

Councillor Richard Stanley, Leader and Lead Member for Economic Development, said: “Tewkesbury Borough comes into its own in spring, making it a perfect opportunity for families to enjoy time together in stunning surroundings. Whether it’s a quiet afternoon tea or a family adventure on a steam train, our attractions and restaurants are making sure there’s a way for every mother figure to feel truly celebrated.”
