Community organisations charities and not-for-profit organisations across Tewkesbury Borough are being invited to bid for a share of £50,000 to help residents struggling with the cost of living.

This funding comes through the UK government’s Crisis and Resilience Fund and will help local organisations deliver practical assistance, face-to-face advice and money management initiatives for people experiencing financial hardship.

Applications are now open until Wednesday, 21 October, with registered charities, parish and town councils, community interest companies and other eligible not-for-profit organisations encouraged to apply.

Funding is available for projects that:
• provide face-to-face cost of living advice through qualified advisers in areas of the borough where there is identified need
• offer practical support to help households avoid crisis and build resilience, including access to low-cost furniture, white goods, essential household items, clothing and energy-efficiency support
• can offer pilot money management and budgeting courses to help residents improve their financial resilience.

Details of the application process are available on borough council’s website: tewkesbury.gov.uk/community-grants

Cllr Debbie Harwood, Lead Member for Communities said: “We know that this winter is going to be difficult for families who are already struggling with the cost of living. While we have already agreed grants of £85,000 to foodbank and food pantries across the borough to provide much needed immediate support, this funding is about helping residents build longer-term resilience.

“By expanding access to face-to-face advice, practical support and financial guidance we can help people navigate challenges before they reach crisis point. We look forward to receiving applications from the many outstanding VCSE groups that make such a difference to our residents.”

Joanna Scott, Programme Director at Feeding Gloucestershire said: “From our conversations with foodbanks and food pantries across Tewkesbury Borough, we know that many people are already in need of support. While emergency food provision remains vital, people want support that helps them tackle the root causes of their difficulties, strengthen their financial resilience, and reduce the likelihood of needing crisis support in the future.”

The resilience funding offered is through a Gloucestershire County Council grant to Tewkesbury Borough Council, from the UK Government Crisis and Resilience Fund. The Crisis and Resilience Fund provides a safety net for people in England who are in crisis and in need of immediate financial help, such as facing a sudden drop in income or an unexpected bill. Residents facing crisis should contact Gloucestershire County Council’s Family Hub.
