The council has been the subject of a cyber incident.
We discovered the incident on Wednesday, 4 September and we shut our systems down as a precaution. This included our telephone and IT systems. We have been working to manage the incident.
We informed the Information Commissioner’s Office, the National Cyber Security Centre and Police and we worked closely with them and a number of other partners.
Our systems have been brought back safely and securely.

Your patience is appreciated as our officers regain access to their @tewkesbury.gov.uk emails and start to address the backlog of tasks that accumulated during the cyber incident.

Our temporary email addresses ending @recovery.tewkesbury.gov.uk will no longer be used.
As a precaution we would like to offer the following advice to residents and customers of Tewkesbury Borough Council:
- Always be cautious when clicking on links in emails and text messages
- Look out for any phishing emails or fraudulent activity on your accounts
- Use strong, unique passwords
- If you suspect your account has been compromised, change your password
- Be vigilant for anything doesn’t seem right and be cautious when sharing your personal information
There is no evidence of data leaving our systems as part of this incident.

If you have received a letter or email from us, you can still respond as per the instructions in the letter or email – even after the deadline given.
We will send out reminders as soon as we can to every household where we do not receive a response to our initial communication.
