Cyber incident update

Cyber incident update – 12 September 2024

We are launching a limited number of temporary email addresses for our residents and partners while we recover from our cyber incident.

The new emails, ending .gov.uk, are only issued to government organisations and provide senders and recipients with reassurance that we have a safe and secure email.

Our new email address: contactus@recovery.tewkesbury.gov.uk is for our partners and members of the public to help us to continue to support our most vulnerable residents.

When we resume normal operations, our @tewkesbury.gov.uk emails will return.

As usual, please be vigilant when clicking on links within emails.

While we start to safely bring our systems back online, please continue to bear with us. Our teams continue to work hard to use the temporary processes which enable us to work as close to normal as possible.

There remains no evidence of a data breach, and while the exact cause continues to be investigated, we are working with cyber protection specialists to ensure our systems remain safe.

As a precaution we would like to offer the following advice to residents and customers of Tewkesbury Borough Council:
⦁ Ignore and delete emails from any address that is similar to ours but includes variations of Tewkesbury or North Gloucestershire. Our emails will end .gov.uk
⦁ Look out for any phishing emails or fraudulent activity on your accounts
⦁ Use strong, unique passwords
⦁ If you suspect your account has been compromised, change your password
⦁ Be vigilant for anything doesn’t seem right and be cautious when sharing your personal information
