Cllr Yates’ blog – 17 May 2024
I can’t resist writing one final blog, just to wind up the whole series. In my previous blog post, I outlined just some of the things that I have been able to do in my year in office as Mayor of Tewkesbury Borough.
My last few days as Mayor were wonderful. First, we were invited to the special May Day celebration at Woodmancote, where I was given the task of judging the fancy dress competition. There were lots of fearsome pirates stalking the high seas to be found at the foot of the Cotswold Hills. I had the privilege of declaring the Fun Day open.
Two days later there was an amazing final event! We were invited to one of the Royal Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace. It was a wonderful experience seeing the Palace Gardens and meeting all sorts of interesting people. The standard of welcome and hospitality was really good, especially considering the number of people present. The King and Queen and the Princess Royal all attended – but I did not get a word with them!
And my magical year came to an end with the Mayor making ceremony in Tewkesbury Abbey. A crowd of people came to see the new Mayor, Councillor Philip Workman, installed and to welcome him to the job. I can promise him a splendid year!
So, there will be no more blogs from me, but I hope you have enjoyed accompanying me on my year as Mayor.
