Our Work
Alongside our new hub of environmental protection and management policies, the council is actively engaged with partners to improve and enhance nature all across the borough.
We have been working closely with Gloucestershire County Council to find areas to plant new trees and hedges to improve our canopy cover, as well as create new habitat for nature. These new trees will also begin to store carbon, helping with Tewkesbury Borough Council’s ambition to be carbon neutral by 2030.
In accordance with the council plan 2025–2028, Tewkesbury Borough Council will survey the whole of the borough’s tree cover, down to ward level. With this will come ‘opportunity mapping’; a way for us to best locate the most impactful areas to plant new trees and hedges, both in towns and villages, as well as in the countryside.
Part of this surveying work will also help the council work out what natural resources we already have. With the implementation of Biodiversity Net Gain, the council is keen to explore if it owns any land that could be utilised to create new, valuable habitat.
