Tewkesbury Borough Council is looking for independent persons to assist with our standards committee process. This is a voluntary public service role, not a job or employment opportunity.

What’s involved?

As an independent person, you will:

  • Attend up to three standards committee meetings per year
  • Work as part of a small team to assess whether councillors may have breached the code of conduct
  • Help to promote high standards of behaviour in local government.

You’ll be asked to consider facts against the code of conduct and contribute to discussions aimed at reaching a shared view.

Who can apply?

We’re looking for individuals who:

  • Are 18 or older
  • Have no political affiliation
  • Have not served on a borough or parish council in the last five years
  • Can apply standards to varied factual situations (a background in governance, law, or public service is helpful but not essential).

You can view the personal specification for the role here.

Informal training will be provided, and a small allowance and travel expenses will be available.

Interested?

To find out more, contact Tom Clark, Monitoring Officer, at tom.clark@tewkesbury.gov.uk.

To apply, send your personal details, a brief background, and a short explanation of why you’re interested in the role to the same email address.

Deadline for applications: Monday, 15 September 2025.
