Community venues in Tewkesbury Borough can now apply for a grant through Tewkesbury Borough Council to help them provide somewhere warm and friendly for residents during the cold months ahead.

Over the past three years, Tewkesbury Borough Council has been able to fund community venues to offer warm spaces during the winter, to support people who would like to meet and socialise with other members of their community. The feedback from this funding has shown the importance of these venues through the winter for both individuals and families’ wellbeing.

The council is inviting venues such as village halls, community centres and places of worship to provide warm spaces – free, welcoming, safe spaces where residents can go to socialise, eat or take part in activities.

The council hopes to fund at least 12 venues across the borough to open as warm spaces. Grants of up to £1,000 are available to support the running of a venue as a warm space and to help provide offers of food and activities to residents.

Councillor Alex Hegenbarth, Lead Member for Community and Housing said: “We are aware of the difficulties residents may experience over the cold winter months and are looking ahead to ensure that there is support to our residents when needed.

“Last year there were over 12,800 visits to warm spaces offered by community venues across the borough. People have spoken of the warm and welcoming atmosphere provided by staff and volunteers and have been able to keep their heating bills down and make friends and socialise while doing so.

‘’We hope community facilities apply for the funding they need so we can help as many people as possible this winter.”

The first deadline for applications is Tuesday, 14 October to find out more visit tewkesbury.gov.uk/warm-spaces.
