Tewkesbury Borough’s retail centres get the ‘deep clean’ treatment
Tewkesbury Borough’s retail centres in Bishops Cleeve, Tewkesbury and Winchcombe have been receiving a boost in the form of a special ‘deep clean’.
To coincide with the relaxation of many Covid restrictions, Tewkesbury Borough Council arranged for environmental services contractor Ubico to carry out a ‘deep clean’, and over the past few weekends the crews have been working hard to ensure our high streets are as welcoming as possible.
In a wide-ranging operation, the crews have been sweeping paths, roads and side roads, clearing the area of litter, jet washing to remove chewing gum and graffiti, and clearing weeds from streets and pavements.
This special ‘deep clean’ was made possible by the Welcome Back Fund, which provides councils with funding to help high street and retail centres make the most of a return to normality.
Councillor Jim Mason, lead member for clean and green environment, said: “Now that we are seeing life return to normal, the council is taking steps to encourage as many people as possible to return to the high street as their first option for shopping or simply to socialise.
“We engaged Ubico to help us achieve this and, as always, they are doing a magnificent job of cleaning our town and village centres and making them as pleasant an environment for shoppers and visitors as possible.”
