Tewkesbury Borough Council enhances energy efficiency with LED lighting upgrade
Tewkesbury Borough Council has successfully upgraded its office lighting to energy-efficient LEDs, marking a significant step towards its carbon-neutral goals.
Completed in January by Gloucestershire-based installer Redbridge and Sons Property Services, lighting throughout the Public Services Centre in Tewkesbury has been improved, and all parts of the building used by Tewkesbury Borough Council now have energy-efficient lighting.
The council is already seeing a 50-60% reduction in the energy used for office lighting, which will lead to both financial and carbon savings.
As an additional benefit, the quality of lighting provided by the LEDs has created an improved work environment for council officers.
The council first declared a climate emergency in 2019 and has committed to having carbon-neutral offices by 2030. The LED lighting installation is another step forward in the journey to reach this goal.
Tewkesbury Borough Council’s lead member for Climate and Ecology, Cllr Cate Cody, said “This LED lighting upgrade is an excellent example of our commitment to sustainability and to reducing our carbon footprint. LED lighting will enhance our working environment and it also brings us closer to our target of making our offices carbon neutral.
“This project builds on the council’s previous carbon-saving initiatives, including the construction of a large solar canopy in the staff car park and the installation of an air source heating system, which replaced inefficient gas boilers and has completely removed the need for a natural gas supply.”
