Councillor Reece, who lives in Bishop’s Cleeve and represents the Cleeve St Michael ward as a borough councillor, has chosen Rev Wendy Ruffle as his chaplain. He said: “It is a great honour and privilege to have this opportunity to serve as Mayor and I am looking forward to working in our community, and being part of it, as Covid-19 restrictions begin to lift. I also hope to help raise the profile of my chosen charities, The Severn Area Rescue Association and Scoo-B-Doo (Supporting Neonatal Care) and hope to bring in some much-needed donations.”

Councillor John Murphy was invested as deputy mayor for the year at the same ceremony. His wife Anne is his mayoress.

The mayor’s role is to chair council meetings and to represent the council at civic events. The mayor attends a number of community and charitable engagements throughout the year.

At the same meeting, Councillor Rob Bird was re-elected as Leader of the Council and Councillor Jim Mason was re-elected as Deputy Leader.
