Home bakers and caterers in Tewkesbury Borough who regularly make food for friends, family, or the public – even if it’s not for profit – must register their home as a food business. Registration is a legal requirement, and it’s free and easy online.

By registering, residents will:

  • Help keep communities safe
  • Meet essential food hygiene standards
  • Gain access to new PDF food safety packs, designed to help home bakers stay compliant and confident.

Councillor Murray Stewart, Lead Member for Environmental Services, said: “Even if you don’t think of yourself as a business, if you make food frequently or advertise your baking services, you still need to register.

“Your pack is a starting point, feel free to adapt it for your specific activities and add any extra safety steps you may need. Let’s keep kitchens in Tewkesbury Borough safe and delicious for all!”

The packs, in PDF format, include practical guidance on:

  • Registering the business
  • Completing a food safety plan
  • Monitoring and record keeping
  • Planning permission, insurance, and business rates
  • Cleaning, food preparation and handling, supply and storage, labelling, chilling and freezing.

Find out more, download your pack, and register now at: tewkesbury.gov.uk/food-safety.
