Homelands welcomes Move More – community consultation and community events announced

Homelands Community Centre in Bishop’s Cleeve has officially become home to Move More, a charity helping children and young people flourish through active, healthy lifestyles.
With keys exchanged, Move More has begun its tenancy ahead of the summer holiday period. As preparations get underway to ready the building and grounds for community use, the charity is inviting local residents to help shape the future of the centre.
A six-week community consultation is now open, giving people the chance to share what activities, services and opportunities they would like to see offered at the centre. The consultation closes on Friday, 21 August
Alongside the public consultation, Move More is also inviting expressions of interest from organisations, groups and providers who may wish to deliver activities, services or programmes from the centre. Providers from all sectors – including sport and physical activity, arts and culture, social groups, education, wellbeing and community support – are encouraged to get in touch to explore potential opportunities.

This marks an exciting new chapter for the community, and we encourage everyone – including young people – to get involved and tell Move More what they want to see and do at their centre.”
Move More is planning two community events; a Homelands Community Centre Open Day, where residents can meet the Move More team and find out more about the community consultation and explore the range of services that could be on offer; and a Homelands Community Fun Day. Dates for both events will soon be announced.

Through our consultation process, we hope to deepen our understanding of community priorities, explore the range of potential provision, and build strong partnership opportunities.”
The Homelands Community Centre provides a flexible, fully accessible environment designed to support a wide range of community activities. The building includes two spacious multi‑purpose halls, a dedicated meeting room for local groups, and a well‑equipped kitchen serving all internal spaces. The centre also benefits from accessible facilities throughout. Outside, a landscaped area will be developed in due course, offering green space alongside parking and dedicated cycle storage to encourage active travel.

Notes to editor: The Homelands Community Centre was agreed as part of a planning condition on Vistry Group’s housing developments in the Gotherington Lane area of Bishop’s Cleeve. Officers from Tewkesbury Borough Council’s property, community, planning and legal teams have worked in partnership with local stakeholders and Vistry Group to ensure the community has a facility fit-for-purpose.
The design of the build was developed in collaboration with the borough and other local stakeholders. As part of the planning conditions, the Homelands Community Centre – including the front external welcome area and the bicycle parking – will be owned by Tewkesbury Borough Council and leased to a tenant. Vistry will retain ownership of the rear external areas designated as public open space, which include the MUGA, car park and wilding area. These spaces are intended to be managed by a facilities management company.
Move More’s submission for tenancy met key criteria, including environmental sustainability, energy efficiency and innovation. The organisation also presented a robust business plan, demonstrating clear financial acumen and comprehensive management strategies.
