Residents, businesses, and community groups are being asked to share their views on proposed changes to the council’s Street Trading Policy.

The Street Trading Policy sets out how street trading is managed, including food trailers in laybys and ice cream vans, as well as trading at temporary markets and events.

The proposed changes include:

  • Less paperwork – streamlining the renewal process for existing street trading consents
  • Faster renewals – making it quicker and easier for traders to continue operating
  • New exemptions for specific circumstances:
    – Trading at charitable and community events
    – Trading as part of an authorised event on council-owned land
    – Selling small amounts of surplus home produce, such as eggs, fruit and preserves next to a person’s home, where it’s not part of a business.

Councillor Murray Stewart, Lead Member for Environmental Services, said: “We want to make street trading easier and quicker for smaller operators, while continuing to maintain high standards. Feedback from our residents and businesses on these proposals is important and will be useful to help shape these changes.”

For more information and to comment on the proposed changes, see the short survey on the council’s website: tewkesbury.gov.uk/proposed-amendments-to-street-trading-policy.

Paper copies of the survey are available on request. Please contact the council on 01684 295010 and ask for the licensing team, and they can post a copy which can then be returned by hand or by post.

The online survey runs until 13 February 2026.
