Flooding information – Friday, 27 September
The Met Office has no weather warning in place for today but there are flood warnings in place for the Avon to the north of the borough. There are no weather warnings for the weekend and, while river levels in the borough are expected to be high, properties are unlikely to be affected.
However, we remain on stand by to assist, and in the event of flooding, will continue to provide support to residents and businesses.
Preparing for fluvial (river) flooding
Filled sandbags are available for collection from the depot for residents who are at immediate risk of flooding to the living quarters of their property. This excludes gardens, garages, outbuildings etc. Four-to-six sandbags will be allocated per property. This will be sufficient to protect an entrance. Officer discretion to be applied at collection location dependent on circumstances.
Sandbag deliveries
We will continue to deliver filled sandbags in daylight hours, and subject to accessibility, to vulnerable residents. Vulnerable residents may include (but are not limited to) the elderly, unwell, those with physical or mental disabilities, those with young children or pregnant women. If you need sandbags to be delivered please call 01684 295010
Sandbag collections
Remember, we provide emergency sandbags for residents to protect the habitable areas of their homes, rather than gardens or garages. Four sandbags are sufficient for most doorways, and during emergencies, officers will provision appropriately to ensure as many homes are protected as possible.
For residents who are at risk of flooding, sandbags can be collected from the following locations. NB, if you are able to fill your own bags, bring your own shovel. Our officers, councillors and/or volunteers will help those in need.
