Flooding awareness – Tuesday, 7 January

There are six flood warnings in the Tewkesbury Borough area – meaning ‘flooding is expected’ – on both the Avon and the Severn. In addition, there are three flood alerts, where ‘flooding is possible’.
Weather forecast
The forecast remains dry for the coming days, albeit cold with fog forecast on Thursday and some sleet and snow returning on Friday. In the longer-term forecast, there is more dry weather predicted for the early part of next week.
Welfare
Our officers are in touch with local flood wardens across the borough and conducting welfare visits and providing support to affected households, including vulnerable residents in isolated communities.
Sandbags
We provide emergency sandbags for residents to protect the habitable areas of their homes, rather than gardens or garages. Four sandbags are sufficient for most doorways, and during emergencies, officers will provision appropriately to ensure as many homes are protected as possible.
