Council action on anti-social behaviour
Tewkesbury Borough Council’s Community Safety team have successfully intervened to tackle anti-social behaviour at an address in Bishop’s Cleeve. Following several concerning complaints from neighbours, the team requested a Partial Closure Order from Cheltenham Magistrates on Thursday, 10 July.
Neighbours reported drug use and prostitution as well as fighting and noise at unsocial hours and the council’s officers took action to ensure the safety of the community and support those affected.
Councillor Alex Hegenbarth, Lead Member for Community and Housing, said: “There has been a little over a week now since the order was obtained and Police and other professionals have been checking in at the address to provide support and assist in addressing the behaviours.
“While it’s still very early in the process, the indications are positive for both the tenant and the community. Drug paraphernalia being discarded was among the complaints which has been directly addressed, so too has the late-night violence.”
What is a Partial Closure Order?
Simply put, it means that the property is partially closed, only open to those listed on the order – in this case, the tenant – and professionals connected to the case. Anyone else who enters the property commits a criminal offence which the may be arrested for. The order enables the tenant to remain at their home, an important element of their rehabilitation.
Letters have been given to neighbours informing them of the action taken and how they can report any concerns they have. The property is owned by Bromford Housing and case workers along with the Police are working not only to ensure compliance with the order but also to support the resident with their on-going needs.
